Engr. Dipendra Kandel is the conceptual founder and Founding Chair of the Dipendra Kandel Initiative (DKI). Driven by a vision to contribute to Nepal’s development through innovation, research, and public engagement, he established the Kandel Foundation in 2015 as a platform for community development, youth engagement, sports initiatives, disaster response activities, and other public-interest programs. The foundation served as an early vehicle for implementing grassroots initiatives and exploring innovative approaches to addressing social and developmental challenges.
Building upon the experience, networks, and lessons gained through the Kandel Foundation, Engr. Kandel later developed the concept of the Dipendra Kandel Initiative (DKI) as a broader and more structured platform focused on policy and program research, institutional strengthening, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based development. Following the establishment and registration of DKI, several initiatives of the Kandel Foundation, including sports development and disaster response programs, were integrated into DKI to expand their reach and align them with the organization's evolving mission and strategic objectives.
As Founding Chair, Engr. Kandel provides strategic direction and leadership for the organization. His vision centers on empowering the Government of Nepal, strengthening institutions, and promoting informed decision-making through research, capacity building, and collaborative action. Under his leadership, DKI works to bridge the gap between knowledge and implementation, fostering innovative solutions that contribute to effective governance, stronger communities, and sustainable national development.
His commitment to public service, civic engagement, democratic participation, and international cooperation continues to shape DKI’s efforts to create meaningful impact and support Nepal’s progress in an increasingly interconnected world.
